Life is full of peaks and valleys

Life is not always a barrel of monkeys, even when we’re living with An Island Perspective. There are plenty of peaks and valleys on our journey. And sometimes those dark valleys can really rattle us.

Like most folks, I prefer the peaks. But I must admit that often my most valuable insights have come from wading through those murky valleys.

You see, life doesn’t always give us what we want, it gives us what we NEED. And while difficult experiences may rattle you a bit, especially when you’re not expecting them, they often lead to a richer and fuller life. They can help you become more of who you’re meant to be.

For example, here are 4 things that might rattle your inner peace:

Rattle #1: You never have enough time to do everything.


Slow down and just enjoy what’s going on right now. Life is full of moments that we never get back. By focusing on what we’re NOT getting done, we take the joy out of what’s going on right now. Take charge of your time. Do only the things that are important and meaningful to you. Then, simply let go of the rest.

Rattle #2: You’re not happy with your life.


Learn to manage your thoughts. Luckily, YOU choose what you want to think about. I know it seems like all those thoughts are just randomly swimming around on their own. And when left to their own devices, they are! While your thoughts can make you feel like things aren’t right – they can also work in the opposite direction and fill you with tranquility and contentment.

Rattle #3: You lack direction and focus.


Start with setting just one meaningful, bite-sized goal. You probably know where you want to go. Or at least you have a general idea of what you want out of life. But you aren’t quite sure how to get there. That’s okay! Take one tiny step and that’s all. While it can be useful to look at the big picture, sometimes the 30,000 foot view can be too overwhelming. And that fear keeps you from taking any action at all.

Rattle #4: You feel grouchy, sluggish, and uninspired.


Find peace and tranquility by living with An Island Perspective. I know things are stressful. Work is tough. Life is hard and unpredictable. Sometimes we need a quick mental vacation – a chance to rejuvenate and get away from it all:

Imagine you are sitting in the shade of a palm grove looking out on the most beautiful beach you’ve ever seen. See the clear turquoise water. Hear the waves caressing the shore. Feel the warm, soft sand beneath your feet. Smell the jasmine wafting through the tropical air. You’ve got a great-tasting concoction in your hand . . .

Life is too short to be miserable. So don’t be! Accept that things will rattle you at times. Fair enough. Slow down and take a step back. Breathe deeply and connect to your peaceful core. Have faith in yourself to gracefully handle whatever comes your way.

Create within your soul an island of peace and tranquility. Then visit often.
